What happens when the flâneur leaves the city life behind and return to desolated nature? What does he recall? His sense of being lost continues in the nature. The man in an empty field looks like a stranger standing in the middle of obscurity, having hard time remembering himself and his roots. In another shot, a horse of a carousel is abandoned middle of wide-open space in Zagreb. Onan’s deep curiosity of spotting unique, abandoned spaces, distinguishes itself again in this series. He leaves the viewers to solve the mystery of deserted scenes, which are independent from time and space. In its singular and plural forms, presence of human being is highlighted through figures, connotations and well-directed use of elements of light and shadow. in the mural behind the flying birds or the woman in the window of the building with another mural continues to remind the human factor. “Lost In Cities” hints details from the contemporary city life as it led the audience to observe the changed cityscapes through different kind of murals. The series also has an archival aspect which leads the viewers to walk around the shared collective spaces where the past and the present meet. The black and whiteness provides an objective visual reading of the graphic elements. The presence of the couple walking up the stairs breaks the pattern of black and white stripes. The shadow of a man holding a frame on the street highlights the importance of the human form in the composition. By its moving, dissonant or mysterious ways, the presence of man is on the spotlight. It is hard to escape to no man’s land in Timurtaş Onan’s photography. In “Lost In Cities”, Onan questions the possibility to experience the world through the eyes of a flâneur. By taking into consideration of our inability to switch off the screen culture, how can we pursue the unknown in the post-digital era? Observing everyday life through scrolling screens, where can a man get lost? “Lost In Cities” looks to the future of the search of the unknown and journey of one’s self-discovery. Yonca Keremoğlu ŞEHİRLERDE KAYBOLMAK Tutkusu, varlığı ve düşünceleriyle kalabalıklarda yaşayan flâneur çıplak doğada tek kaldığında neyi anımsıyor? Şehri terk edip, uzakta kaldığı doğaya geri döndüğünde kalabalık gidiyor, şehrin sesleri kesiliyor. Şehirdeki kaybolmuşluğu doğanın içerisinde de devam ediyor. Kaybolmak beraberinde kendini hatırlamayı da getiriyor. Kırsalda tek başına duran adam bilinmezliğin ortasında bir yabancı gibi. Zagreb’de atlı karıncanın tek atı ıssız bir lunaparkın ortasında, boş bir alana terk edilmiş. Onan’ın kendine özgü terkedilmiş alanların ruhunu yakalamadaki merakına bu seride de rastlıyoruz. Zamandan ve mekandan kopuk, ıssız atmosferlerin gizemini çözmeyi izleyiciye bırakıyor. Tekil ve çoğul halleriyle insan faktörü çağrışımlarla, gerçek formları ve ışık gölge detaylarıyla şehirde de doğa içerisinde de kendini gösteriyor. Uçuşan kuşların arkasındaki duvar resminde ya da başka bir duvar resminin yer aldığı binanın penceresinde duran kadın insan faktörünü hatırlatmaya devam ediyor. “Şehirlerde Kaybolmak”, değişen şehir manzaralarını farklı tür duvar resimleri aracılığı ile gözlemlenmesine yol açarak, çağdaş şehir hayatından detaylar veriyor. Serinin ayrıca izleyiciyi geçmişin ve şimdinin buluştuğu ortak kolektif alanlarda dolaşmaya yönlendiren bir arşiv yönü var. Fotoğrafların siyah beyazlığı grafik öğeleri vurgulayarak daha objektif bir okuma sağlıyor. Merdivenlerden çıkan çift, siyah beyaz şeritlerdeki paterni bozarken, sokakta çerçeveyi tutan adam ve gölgesi insan formunun kompozisyon içindeki önemini vurgulamaktadır. Hareketli, ahenksiz veya gizemli yollarıyla, insanın varlığı hep oradadır. ‘Şehirlerde Kaybolmak’ ile Timurtaş Onan günümüzde bir flâneurün gözünden dünyayı deneyimleme imkanımızın olup olmadığını sorgulatıyor.
